The One Color That Makes Your Outfit Look More Expensive

SHEfinds | Justine Ingersoll Schwartz

Not everyone has the budget to dress in all designer – in fact, if you’re lucky, you have one expensive piece on at any given time. We’d all love to dress in head-to-toe Chanel, but that’s just not reality, so even the most stylish women need to have a few tricks up their sleeves for making their outfits feel polished and high-end (even if it’s totally all Forever 21 and H&M).

One of those tricks is actually a color you can wear. And no – it’s not black! I know, shocking, right? You’d think that slipping into a little black dress or wearing a jet-black leather jacket would be the trick – but it’s not. The color is camel!

According to style experts, camel pieces, like trench coats and cozy sweaters, do the trick. There’s just something about the neutral hue that people associate with wealth. You could credit Burberry trenches or other preppy staples like riding pants for making tan/camel an unofficial fashion symbol of having money. Style icons like Jackie O., who loved to style a camel trench over an all-black ensemble, certainly helped.

So, that’s the trick for looking like you spent a lot more on your outfit than you actually did.
