Summer in the City: 9 Items You Need for a Weekend Escape

Don’t get us wrong, we love a good old summer beach weekend, but sometimes the city calls – like right now. So we’re packing our bags for park strolls, alfresco brunches, and late-night rooftop drinks. Are you in? Here’s what to bring.

1. Midi Skirt
Breezy, lightweight, and flattering on everyone, the pleated midi works all day and all night (in even the hottest of temps). You’ll see what we mean.

2. Cotton Tee
You know that cotton is breathable and super comfortable, so why would you want to be in anything else on a scorching subway platform?

3. Leather Jacket
It may be too warm outdoors, but air conditioners are no joke. Keep this bad boy on hand for frigid indoor temps, then tie it around your waist when you hit the sidewalk.

4. Crossbody Bag
Shopping, ice cream cone–holding, and flagging down your Uber on the way to brunch are all way easier when your hands are free.

5. Comfy Sandals
Sightseeing is work (just check your Fitbit if you don’t believe us). Keep those feet happy on park strolls with a pair of cushioned sandals that can take every step like a champ.

6. Metro Card
It may be tempting to Uber everywhere, but traffic is real. Grab a weekend subway pass for unlimited rides – tell us that’s not convenient.

7. Sunglasses
Whether you’re battling the glare off shiny skyscrapers or they just add extra oomph to your outfit, a pair of on-trend and flattering shades are a must. Have we included sunglasses in past lists?  I can’t recall…

8. Watch
A.k.a. the OG iPhone® clock. It’s functional, it’s stylish, and it helps you make it to your dinner reservations on time.

9. Strappy Stilettos
Hopefully your feet are in tip-top shape (see: comfy sandals). When the sun sets, swap in a pair of sky-high dancing shoes – your feet can rest when the bar closes.
