Raise your hand if you’re sick and tired of yanking your socks and boots on every day. Keep your hand raised if you’ve fantasized about your first “Hallelujah-winter-is-over!” pedicure. Dear friend, you’re not alone. Here are seven shoes trends to look forward to in the coming year.

Anything with Velvet

Nope, this luxe fabric isn’t only stylish in winter (and it’s not just for booties). Expect to see this plush trend stick around all year long in slippers, sneakers, and platform sandals.

Anything with Buckles

We know, we know: Your beloved lace-up flats are still going strong. But this edgy twist can be found on nearly every type of footwear, so don’t be surprised if you find yourself craving a little punk accent on your ballerina flats. The detail goes way beyond moto boots (but, yes, those are still trendy, too).

Athletic Slides

Okay, hear us out: These rubber-soled throwbacks are cropping up everywhere (and have been pushed to the fashion forefront by the likes of Rihanna, Kaley Cuoco, and others)… and we’re not mad. Sure, they’re a glorified flip-flop. But they’re also just so damn comfortable.

Anything Metallic

Talk about show stopping. This year’s nude is gold, silver, or whichever shiny hue you prefer. They all pair nicely with just about everything in your closet (and add a fun oomph to your outfit).

Whimsical Details

Is that a (Gucci) snake on your shoe or are you just happy to see us? In all seriousness, the New Year has us yearning for lucky charms, quirky patterns, and imaginative appliques as a welcome upgrade to our basic white kicks.

Flat mules made a splash in 2016, and variations can now be found everywhere you look. If you haven’t snagged them yet, be sure to hop on the “I-can’t-believe-these-aren’t-called-slippers” train soon. Your ankles won’t regret it.

Truthfully, these are your grandmother’s shoes, but in the best way. The block-heeled pumps gets a modern upgrade in two-toned and suede styles that would give even Coco Chanel a run for her money.
