Not to brag… but Rue La La’s very own Marissa M. ran the Boston Marathon on Monday. Marissa was incredibly inspired by marathon winner Desiree Linden – the first American woman to win since 1985. Serious girl power, right? We chatted with Marissa to find out how she managed to make it through that horrible weather (in case you missed it, there was torrential downpouring), and to find out her top three running must-haves.

Rue Now: We have to ask: How did you find the strength to finish the race? The weather must have made it even harder.
Marissa M.: The weather was tough, but I was determined to be tougher. Midway through the race was a turning point for me; I started counting down the miles left to go – with 3 miles to the finish line, I could hear the crowd cheering everyone on. It sounds cheesy, but their shouts of love and encouragement saw me through to the end!
RN: What are your top three essentials for a long run?
MM: A lightweight sneaker means less weight on the feet, so a faster finish time. Wicking apparel is a must to keep the body dry, since it’s engineered to pull sweat away from you. And for post-race (or even after a training session), foam rollers and stretching are absolute necessities.
