While many luxury brands have shifted away from aligning their names with a mainstream event like Coachella, that still doesn’t prevent them from capitalizing on one of the highest-grossing music festivals in the world. Take, for example, Gucci, which was worn by one Rihanna during Coachella’s first weekend. The pop star sported a sparkly bodysuit and street art–inspired logo tank top straight from the Italian house’s Fall 2017 show, and, as a result, online shopping platform Lyst saw a surge of searches for Gucci T-shirts.
According to a spokesperson, logo tees by the label have had record-breaking searches over the last year, but on Saturday, when RiRi debuted her Coachella outfit, searches increased by a whopping 203 percent. Thanks to other celebrity looks from the weekend, Lyst noticed a 74 percent jump in inquiries for Reebok track suits – one of which was worn by Sofia Richie – and an uptick in searches from more than 23K shoppers for a “nude minidress,” thanks to Kylie Jenner’s nearly naked ensemble from Friday.
As for Gucci’s logo T-shirt, we suggest you grab the It item (or its vintage bootleg version) while you can before it becomes basic. Though, if the level of admiration industry insiders and beyond have for Alessandro Michele is any indication, we don’t think we’ll see that happening anytime soon.
