If your summer reading list could use some Madeline Martha Mackenzie–level excitement, you’re in luck.
Reese Witherspoon just announced that she selected her book club pick for August: The Last House Guest by Megan Miranda. (Miranda also wrote the New York Times best sellers All the Missing Girls and The Perfect Stranger.)
Witherspoon captioned an Instagram post, “The ultimate thriller! My August book club pick is #TheLastHouseGuest by @meganlmiranda. Picture this: It’s the last night of summer in Littleport, Maine, and Avery Greer discovers her best friend is missing.”
The BLL star went on to tease the thrilling plot, adding, “Was she murdered? Was it a suicide? This story will have you guessing until the very end. I can’t wait for y’all to read it so we can discuss all the twists and turns at @reesesbookclub!”
The Last House Guest tells the story of Avery Greer, a young woman who finds herself in the middle of a murder investigation after her best friend, Sadie Loman, mysteriously dies while on vacation. Although the police rule her death a suicide, Avery isn’t convinced it’s so simple and makes it her mission to clear Sadie’s name.
Welp, there goes our social life for the next month.
