Proud to Be: Celebrating Pride Month at Rue La La

We’re celebrating Pride Month in style and have launched an exclusive-to-Rue tee, with proceeds benefiting GLSEN. GLSEN is the leading national education organization focused on ensuring safe schools for all students – regardless of their sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression.

Our tee features “Proud to Be ____”, and throughout Pride Month, we’re asking our employees to fill in the blank. Today, we’re chatting with Mia Zarrella from our Social Media Department.

Rue La La: Who or what are you proud to be?

Mia Zarrella: I’m proud to be an ally. I’m an ally not just for my friends and family, but for all LGBTQ+ people.

RLL: What does love mean to you?

MZ: Love is freedom. I believe that everybody should have the right to love and marry whom they want.

RLL: What can our Members do as activists and allies for the LGBTQ+ community?

MZ: Our Members can donate to charities like GLSEN that help the LGTBQ+ community. They can speak up for people whose voices aren’t being heard. They can be ACTIVE activists.

RLL: How are you celebrating Pride Month?

MZ: I’m celebrating Pride Month by donating to GLSEN and spending time with my LGBTQ+ friends, while showing my love and support for the community.

RLL: Who in the LQBTQ+ community inspires you?

MZ: I am inspired by Lena Waithe. Not only is she a successful queer black woman, but she is a successful queer black woman in COMEDY – an industry that is notorious for discriminating against women, whether they are of color or not. I am also inspired every day by my brother Greyson. It wasn’t easy for him to come out, and he still struggles with discrimination, but he’s stronger from it all.
