Let’s Hear It For the Boys: Four Menswear-Inspired Must-Haves

It’s official. Menswear is having a moment… again. Popularized in the past by the likes of Annie Hall and Bianca Jagger, the androgynous look is making a comeback on the Fall 2013 runways. To bring a touch of the tomboy trend to your closet this season, simply scoop up the menswear staples below.

The Oversized Coat
This style works best when done up in a classic menswear pattern like houndstooth or tweed. Make sure to pair it with tailored trousers or simple skinnies to balance out the coat’s loose shape.

The Button-Front Shirt
There’s something oh-so-alluring about snagging a dress shirt from a man’s wardrobe and making it your own. Tuck it into a cropped trouser or pencil skirt and play around with neckline – button it up for a more formal, office-appropriate look, or down with a bold necklace for an extra feminine touch.

The Tailored Trouser
When it comes to this menswear must-have, draw in the classic structure of a well-tailored men’s suit with a tapered leg and straight pleats. For a feminine twist, don’t be afraid to play with bright colors and funky prints.

The Blazer
It’s important not to lose your figure when testing out the menswear waters, so pick a blazer with strong shoulders to emphasize the trend – and darts to show off that waistline.

Our Elizabeth and James Boutique opens Friday, August 30, at 11AM ET.
