It's a Match: How to Pick the Right Shoes for Your Coat

We tend to pair our shoes with whatever is going on underneath our outerwear – and disregard our topper altogether. But this year, let’s change it up. Here’s how to make sure what you’re wearing on your feet goes smoothly with what’s keeping you warm.

Cropped Down + Riding Boots
The cropped down jacket is best kept casual, so when picking a shoe, think about function. A tall leather riding boot is the just-right mix of comfortable and smart. (Since this cropped style echoes that of the moto jacket, the leather boot pairing is especially fitting, too.)

Trench + Pumps
When you’re opting for a night on the town, go with a trench. The structured shoulders and cinched waist are always flattering and can do dressy with ease. Try it with a pair of black skinnies and a platform pump. The coat itself is a simple staple, so go bold with a printed shoe that pulls in coat’s neutral hue.

Oversized Coat + Flats
Oversized outerwear is in right now, so it’s best to let this trendsetting look do the talking. Boots are a no-no for the longer coat, as they’ll give the appearance of a shorter leg (and who wants that?). So choose a simple solid flat that will elongate your legs and allow you the comfort to stroll in floor-length outerwear.

Our Calvin Klein Boutique opens Wednesday, September 18, at 11AM ET.
