They say first impressions are everything. So before wowing guests with an impeccably decorated house? Make sure your front door is up to snuff.
According to our friends at Benjamin Moore, that can be done with a simple coat (or two) of paint. Check out their tips for a colorful, inviting door below.
Take your front door’s surroundings into account. You want a color that stands out but still works with the rest of the house. For example, a casual, bright hue can add a little whimsy to a formal facade, making it look more welcoming.
Consider your hardware. You want your paint to work with, not against, it. Have a brass doorknob and knocker? Try a dark green or black door.
Cater to your tastes. Different colors represent different decorating styles. For something sophisticated, look to an eggplant color. For a more modern, trendsetting look, try yellow.
Brush up on your feng shui. That’s right – it’s not just for furniture. In feng shui, your door’s color should depend on which way it faces. If that’s your thing, take this compass reading (don’t worry, it’s quick and easy) and get painting.
