Vogue Italia debuted its October 2017 cover on Wednesday morning, starring Lauren Hutton. At 73 years old (going on 74 next month), the actress and model is the oldest woman ever to appear on a Vogue cover, reports WWD. The Italian publication’s latest issue, dubbed the “Timeless Issue,” focuses on women over 60 and will hit newsstands on Thursday, October 5.
Hutton stars on three versions the Vogue Italia cover wearing Valentino and photographed by Steven Klein. “I’ve had a record 27 covers of American Vogue, and I’ve had 13 other Vogue covers, but this is the most important I have ever done, the one that has made me feel most useful,” says Hutton in an official statement. “I’ve been thinking about it for a while, but it took Vogue Italia’s courage to make it true. This is a cover that can change society, because it shows a woman who is vibrant, attractive, who still laughs, and who for the first time is a woman my age.”
In addition to Hutton, the “Timeless Issue” also features an editorial with Benedetta Barzini, currently 74 years old and Vogue Italia’s first-ever cover model from its November 1965 issue, as well as Iman, 64, modeling Dior’s Resort 2018 collection. Newly announced CoverGirl ambassador Maye Musk, 69, social media style star Baddie Winkle, 89, artist Marina Abramovic, 70, and first transgender model Tracey Norman, 66, are also included in the magazine. Up-and-coming photographer Ethan James Green also shot a photo series and video called The Women of Corlears Hook Park (a famous park in Lower Manhattan), which is featured on Vogue Italia’s Instagram.
