Do Coastal Chic the Cape Cod Way

The Kennedy Compounin Cape Cod was more than just a summer home – it was Jackie’s oasis. From weathered wood to beachfront grounds on Nantucket Sound, it’s easy to see why. But you don’t have to live on the Atlantic to experience those vibes. Below, we’re gleaning tips from Pamela Clarke Keogh’s book, Jackie Style, on how to summer like a Kennedy.

The Décor

There is nothing more quintessentially New England than this sprawling estate. Taking inspiration from the coastline, “Jackie wanted her rooms to look like a painting, a watercolor… [She used] French fabrics from Szanne Fontagne in Paris that were very fresh, beautiful, high-quality white cottons with florals dashed on them.”

Bring It Home: Ocean-inspired hues (think: tonal blues with pops of white) bring the coast to you. Mix in printed upholstery – from chairs to headboards – for a touch of the Parisian flair that Jackie loved so much.

The Wardrobe

Everything took on a more relaxed feeling at the Kennedy Compound – style included. There was no place for the perfect Cassini suits, matching hats, and little white gloves that Jackie donned in the White House. On the Cape, “she wore loose wrinkled trousers and a yellow T-shirt untucked. She was barefoot with the wind blowing her hair.”

Bring It Home: Emulate Jackie’s laid-back beach aesthetic with all-linen everything. Then, pare down your beauty routine: moisturizer with SPF is all you need.
