Let’s face it: We’re all social media–obsessed. And yes, we admit that sometimes our attachment to our phones isn’t the healthiest thing… but there’s also a lot of good that comes out of social media. It connects people with similar interests (ahem, fashion) and it’s a great platform to share your creativity. Today, we’re going over three photo-taking tips that ensure your next #OOTD (or #MyRueFind, perhaps?) will stop scrollers in their tracks.
1. Master the Flat-Lay
It sounds a little ridiculous, but a flat-lay is a fancy Insta term for photos that are taken from above. Your Sunday brunch with the girls is basically begging for this kind of photo. Don’t let your avocado toast steal the spotlight – place a few of your new style obsessions on the table. That new luxe bag? Check. Retro shades? Check. The key to a good flat-lay is to hold your photo completely parallel to the table. Get as high up as you can (tiptoes encouraged) and snap the pic. People might stare, but they haven’t seen the Insta-gold you just created, have they?
2. Get Personal
Your social media feed is basically a collection of all your favorite moments. Don’t be afraid to get a little personal – it’s that realness that everyone wants to see. Love art? Show off your latest creation. Go through an old box of family photos? We want a #FlashbackFriday.
3. Consider the Lighting
Lighting can be your best friend or your worst enemy. You would think bright light would be best, right? Wrong. Sunlight can cause an overexposed image and harsh shadows. A little shade can do wonders – it’s slimming and overall more flattering than direct sunlight. Warm things up with a filter, and your next outfit pic is ready for upload.
