I love wearing white, and as someone who prefers a minimalist approach to getting dressed, white is a big part of my neutrals-only closet. The only problem? Wearing white when you have a tendency to spill everything you eat or drink is a struggle. Add the whole living-in-NYC thing and my poor white clothes have put up with some major abuse. But there’s an easy way to keep your whites white that you’ve probably never heard yet. Allow me to explain.
Two words: lemon juice. It turns out that lemon juice is an amazing alternative to bleach when it comes to removing stains from white clothes. To spot-treat a stain, mix equal parts lemon juice and water and spray on the stain – it works like a dream on underarm stains on a white blouse. If you simply need to brighten a load of whites, just add between ¼ and ½ cup of lemon juice to your laundry load – it’s that easy.
Luckily, lemon juice allows for a no-fear approach to wearing whites – no need to freak out every time you take your favorite pair of white jeans out of your closet.
