Highlighter Hair Is Coachella’s Standout Beauty Trend

Turns out, Kylie Jenner was right on point with her highlighter-yellow locks. I've always wanted to rock neon-pink hair, but I don't think I would ever take the plunge for fear that my hair would never be the same after. If there's one place to try it though, it's Coachella.

Coachella – and festival season in general – is often a questionable time for beauty trends, as we’ve all learned over the years. So it’s always somewhat refreshing to see celebrities and other Coachella attendees venture away from culturally insensitive looks and ubiquitous flower crowns to try out something new for the occasion. During the first weekend of Coachella 2017, one dominant beauty trend was highlighter hair.

Kylie Jenner took the concept most literally, opting for a blindingly bright yellow-green wig in a blunt, below-the-shoulder length. But others also tested the neon hair waters with pinks, purples, blues, and even some multicolored combination of those. Sure, some attendees’ takes on the trend (Halsey, Simi and Haze) were more successful than others (sorry, Ariel Winter, this just isn’t your lewk), but as a whole, highlighter hair is a fun way to try something different for Coachella. And, at the very least, it doesn’t appropriate another culture? (Unless Troll dolls or cotton candy can be considered a culture.)
