’Tis the season of holiday parties, work soirées, and, of course, New Year’s Eve. But what happens when one of these glam events immediately follows a buttoned-up 9-to-5? One word: glitter. No, we’re not talking about those roll-on sparkles we knew all too well in 7th grade. We’re talking a tasteful (and grown-up) hint of glitz that you can add right over your daytime look. Curious? Our makeup artist Rachael B. explains how it’s done.
Lips
For daytime, hit the office in a classic crimson lipstick. When night falls? Just reapply that same hue and dab a touch of shimmery eyeshadow on your Cupid’s bow and the center of your bottom lip for the appearance of a fuller pout. (Then, head straight for the mistletoe.)

Face
A party-ready glow is all about subtle strobing. Blend highlighter directly on top of the day’s foundation where the sun would naturally hit – the bridge of your nose, cheekbones, forehead, and chin. An understated sheen primes any office makeup for the dance floor.

Eyes
Start the day with a subtle gold-shimmer eyeshadow on your lids, and toss a glittery black eyeliner pencil in your clutch for later. Before heading out for your party, grab that liner and slick on a cat-eye for added wow factor and just a hint of sparkle.
Pro tip: Choose to play up eyes or lips, never both. It’s best to leave that disco-ball effect to the middle schoolers.
