Escape in Style: Lorenzo Martone

Who better to offer travel tips then folks who travel for a living? We touched base with a few of our fave fashion world insiders to give us the lowdown. Stay tuned for more of these interviews throughout the month.

Escape: I have two favorite places. My memories from St. Barts are wonderful: The French influence makes me nostalgic for the time I lived in Paris. From dining at Maya’s to spending the day at Saline Beach, every minute there is wonderful. I remember one winter going to sail with Patrick Demarchelier and we had a blast. The ocean is warm and the atmosphere very relaxing. All this just five hours away from NYC! My second favorite trip is Burma/Myanmar. I spent Christmas and New Year’s Eve there in 2007 and It felt like I had taken a time machine and gone back 100 years. No telephone nor internet. Only temples to see and South Asian culture to absorb. It’s the kind of place that makes you feel small – like a grain of sand in an immense beach. The New Year’s ceremony in Inle Lake was unforgettable.
Must-Haves: Sunscreen (even if it doesn’t show, I do I use it). One special CD for the car; I always like having a soundtrack for each trip to make it more memorable – and yes, a CD (remember them?). One book (also the old – paper – version of books so I can read under the sun).
Next Stop: Bellport, Long Island where I rented a house. It’s close to New York yet feels disconnected. I have a big kitchen and cook a lot. And, of course, lots of bike rides to the beach. I will finally catch up with my reading!
