I. Love. The. Holidays. I have a fresh tree ready to decorate the day after Thanksgiving, pine-scented candles lined up to burn for the next month, and so many cookie recipes to bake. I try to get my shopping done early because I love to think of the perfect gift and have time to nicely wrap it up. But sometimes thinking of a WOW gift for everyone can be a real head-scratcher. Fortunately, people who love to read are easy to shop for – when it comes down to it, there’s probably nothing that would make them happier than receiving a book as a gift. Here are a few reads that are sure to please the bibliophiles in your life.

A Christmas Carol
By Charles Dickens
Obviously I had to kick off this list with none other than the most infamous holiday story EVER. Written by Charles Dickens in 1843, A Christmas Carol is a timeless story that is still going strong. I personally read this every year. At a little over a hundred pages, it’s a quick read that will truly warm the cockles of their heart. It worked for Scrooge.

How to Be Parisian Wherever You Are
By Anne Berest, Audrey Diwan, Caroline de Maigret, and Sophie Mas
Everyone has a Francophile in their life, and if they also love un bon livre, then this book is for them. In classic French fashion, How to be Parisian is a tongue-in-cheek (ahem, chic) guide through the ins and outs of everything there is to know about life, love, style, and entertaining. With this book, they’ll always have Paris.

Harry Potter
By J.K. Rowling
A magical read at any time of the year, the Harry Potter saga feels even more sparkling around the holidays. I started reading this series when I was eleven years old, and I still reread it to this day. Gift this to someone young, someone young at heart, or someone who might want a reminder of what being young was like.

Bibliophile: An Illustrated Miscellany
By Jane Mount
What could be better than a book about… books?! Artist Jane Mount is known for her vibrant illustrations of iconic book spines. Her second publication is filled with even more illustrations of bookstores, libraries (and the cats who live there), quizzes, puzzles, and reading lists on a variety of subjects.

Kitchen Confidential
By Anthony Bourdain
This is a great gift if you’re not sure what genre someones likes, if they read a wide variety of topics, or if they’re not even big readers at all. Written by the late Anthony Bourdain, Kitchen Confidential is a wickedly funny (and sometimes shocking) tale of chef-life. The book is informative and often scathing, but still holds the rare quality of being entirely universal. Tip: Don’t buy fish on Mondays.
