Company's Coming: 4 Ways to Prep for Fall Guests

Clean sheets and spare towels go without saying. Next time overnighters stop by, take a few extra steps to make them feel truly at home.

  1. Give the bedside a welcoming feel. Mini water bottles. A magazine with local to-dos. Fresh, seasonal flowers like sunflowers and mums.
  2. Make space for sprawl. Create a suitcase stand with a foldout table or trunk, and clear some hangers in the closet.
  3. Keep extra bedding nearby. Pillows. Blankets. Even oversized sweaters and socks. Everyone has their own snooze style, and guests likely won’t ask for favors.
  4. Store toiletries in plain sight. Bottom line: guests shouldn’t need directions to the toothpaste or hand cream. Arrange it all in an easy-to-reach basket.
