Fashionable Hostess | Amanda S. Gluck
When I was unpacking our bar, I came across our Moscow Mule mugs and realized that I don’t use them nearly enough! So right in time for spring, I wanted to whip up a classic Moscow Mule recipe with a little spin of my own, including blood oranges and mint for garnish.
A few things to note about this cocktail: You can easily make it your own variation by changing up the juice and garnish additions. Every “classic” Moscow Mule has vodka, ginger beer, lime juice, and ice (and usually more lime for garnish). Variations on the Moscow Mule that I have seen include grapefruit, berry, jalapeño, and even elderflower. I love mint for spring, so I swapped the usual lime garnish for mint, which seriously makes it so refreshing – like a mojito! Then, if you like your drink a little sweeter, I recommend squeezing the orange into the drink rather than simply letting it soak.
Cheers to spring!
MOSCOW MULE WITH BLOOD ORANGE GARNISH
Ingredients
1½ ounces vodka (1 shot)
½ ounce (1 tablespoon) fresh lime juice
½ cup chilled ginger beer
1 large sprig of mint
Sliced blood orange for garnish
If you want to make it even sweeter, squeeze half a blood orange into the cocktail for sweet taste and brighter color.
Instructions
1. Fill a tall glass with ice.
2. Add the vodka, lime juice, and ginger beer.
3. Feel free to squeeze some fresh blood orange juice into the drink and stir.
3. Garnish with mint and blood orange slices and serve.
