Expecting Holiday Guests? Be the Best Bartender You Can Be

Holiday season is fast approaching, which means it’s time to brush up on your bartending skills. Whether you’re hosting overnight guests or entertaining drop-ins, nothing says “hostess with the mostest” like a well-stocked bar cart – and an arsenal of glasses to match. Here’s a breakdown of the three you’ll likely be reaching for most.

Holiday Glasses

Cognac Glass
Also known as a “snifter.” Its wide bottom fits cozily in hand, which passes a little helpful heat to the drink. It also means more liquid surface area, which helps evaporation along. The narrow mouth traps the aroma inside, making for sips that are full-on sensory experiences.

Bordeaux Glass
Designed for full-bodied reds like Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, the big-bellied bowl allows for easy aeration (which brings out a wine’s fruity flavors) and the concentration of aromas. It also directs wine to the back of the mouth, where reds taste their best.

Martini Glass
The long stem acts as an easy grip, keeping the warmth of the hand away from the bowl and, in turn, the cocktail chilled (martinis are served sans ice). That odd cone shape? It’s designed to keep ingredients from separating.

Our The Guests Are Coming: Prepare for the Holidays Boutique opens Tuesday, October 15, at 3PM ET.
