With Hubert de Givenchy’s passing, we’re celebrating his legacy with a look back at some of his most iconic designs – and the partnership he formed with Audrey Hepburn. In addition to making the LBD a wardrobe staple, another of Givenchy’s greatest achievements was developing Hepburn’s sought-after style. With the help of his expertise, she became one of the most celebrated icons of her time. Want in on the looks made famous by this fashion dream team? Hubert de Givenchy is credited with introducing separates into the fashion-sphere. This allowed women to expand their wardrobe – and personal style – by mixing and matching versatile pieces. Channel your inner Audrey by filling your closet with purposefully interchangeable tops and bottoms. The more outfit combos, the better.

While Hepburn gravitated toward Givenchy’s more simplistic silhouettes, there was nothing boring about the final product. Get her signature look with an understated basic (ahem, that LBD) and glam it up with over-the-top jewelry and accessories.

So, how did this duo meet? Audrey was sent to Paris to select costumes for her movie Sabrina when she stumbled on Givenchy’s work. For your next big event, opt for an embroidered gown like the one she chose for the film. Statement, made.
