Director Yorgos Lanthimos’ latest Fox Searchlight film, The Favourite, premiered last week in select cities. The movie, starring Rachel Weisz and Emma Stone, takes place in 18th-century England during Queen Anne’s reign. Weisz plays the role of Lady Sarah, the Queen’s right-hand woman who guides the ill and dysfunctional monarch in ruling the country. That is, until Lady Sarah’s cousin Abigail (played by Emma Stone) arrives as a scullery maid and quickly becomes a favorite of the Queen. *Cue the drama.*
We caught up with Weisz to talk more about the film, her role, and how she unwinds after a long day of filming. (After all, it’s not easy wearing a corset all day.)
