Adele by the Decades: How She Rocks the 50s, 60s, & 70s

She had us at “Hello, it’s me.” After what felt like a forever hiatus, Adele is back slaying music records and seriously stepping up her style game. In the past, the soulful singer’s public wardrobe of LBDs acted as a backdrop to her face and voice, but recent appearances have been significantly more fashion-forward. What hasn’t changed? Her serious style obsession with the fifties, sixties, and seventies.

On Stage: A Nod to the 50s

Adele’s penchant for old-school glamour (think silver screen more than retro) is a refreshing break from the body-con outfits favored by her peers. Owning her plus-size shape, she embraces flattering fifties silhouettes with a defined waist and midlength hem. She adds interest with fabric, whether it’s embroidered, brocaded, or printed, like the maroon lace overlay and coordinating pumps seen here.

Beauty Routine: A Nod to the 60s

Adele jokes that her beauty regime is “borderline drag,” but from an outsider’s perspective, her flawless face is major inspiration. Her signature look has always referenced the sixties – from retro eyes to a voluminous bouffant. But lately, she’s toned down her makeup a touch, opting for classic cat-eye liner, subdued hues, and a new choppy bob that is likely to become the most requested haircut of 2016.

Off-Duty: A Nod to the 70s

When she’s not performing, Adele’s daytime style is all about sleek separates, streamlined color palettes, and decidedly seventies details. Here, she went for a chic pair of culottes, a duster-style coat, and lace-up boots reminiscent of the more bohemian side of the decade, rather than that risqué Studio 54 vibe.
