We’re celebrating Pride Month in style and have launched an exclusive-to-Rue tee, with proceeds benefiting GLSEN. GLSEN is the leading national education organization focused on ensuring safe schools for all students – regardless of their sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression.
Our tee features “Proud to Be ____”, and throughout Pride Month, we’re asking our employees to fill in the blank. Today, we’re chatting with John Camilleri from our Creative Department.
Rue La La: Who or what are you proud to be?
John Camilleri: HERE! Sounds crazy, but I believe we are all so lucky to be here experiencing each other, and celebrating this journey together.
RLL: What does love mean to you?
JC: It’s quintessential – never abstract. It is real – consistently misunderstood as a mystery, or used incorrectly as control or measure – love is in all of us. When applied, at any level, it reverberates out – it grows and grows, and it is the most powerful tool owed by humankind. It is simply here for our benefit – let’s use it.
RLL: What can our Members do as activists and allies for the LGBTQ+ community?
JC: Buck FEAR. It is the biggest cancer of our society. Rise above, open your hearts, mind, and sprit. It is human to evolve – resist everything that blocks human kindness. Practice compassion – be the example
RLL: How are you celebrating Pride Month?
JC: I attended the Boston Pride parade.
RLL: Who in the LQBTQ+ community inspires you?
JC: All of them – right now Pete Buttigieg is at the top of the list
