The fun of going to a music festival is dressing the part – but you could risk falling victim to a few fashion faux pas if you overdo it on the trends (we totally get it, there are just way too many good ones to pass up). Stick to these five cool-girl updates, and you might just snag a style photog’s attention.

Festival Cliché 1: Colored hair and flash tattoos. Unless you’re a Jenner, leave this look alone.
The Update: Try of-the-moment braids and a pop of color on your lips. It’s a simple but stunning look that even the most hair-and-makeup-challenged girl can do herself.
Festival Cliché 2: Feathered headpieces. That trend was so three years ago.
The Update: Opt for 70s-inspired floppy hats and face-framing shades. The bigger the better – you’ll look cool, and you’ll protect yourself against those serious Cali rays.
Festival Cliché 3: Crop tops and cutoffs. We’re not saying this classic festival combo is a total no, but every other girl will be wearing it too.
The Update: Rock an off-the-shoulder look. Choose a billowy top, a romper, or a sundress for a comfortable yet oh-so-now silhouette that doesn’t look like you’re trying too hard.
Festival Cliché 4: Two words: high heels. Your legs might look good, but you will immediately regret it.
The Update: Slip on gladiator sandals. Look to pairs with padded insoles meant for dancing on your feet all day (and night) long.
Festival Cliché 5: Selfie sticks. The most obnoxious (but totally fun) accessory ever invented is actually banned at the festival.
The Update: Grab a portable battery pack for when your phone can’t keep up with the selfie-taking. Pro tip: Switch to airplane mode and hold off posting pics to extend your phone’s life.
