1. After picking up her sole Oscar in 1954 while wearing Givenchy, Audrey Hepburn requested the designer make all her costumes from then on.
2. According to the New York Times, 34 A-list actresses have worn Versace to the Oscars since 1998, making it the most popular label on the red carpet, followed by Valentino (20), Christian Dior (18), Vera Wang (16), and Chanel (14).
3. Actresses aren’t the only ones rocking flawless faces at the Oscars. Men like Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise, and Benedict Cumberbatch have all donned makeup for the event.
4. With the material alone costing $4,000, Grace Kelly’s 1955 Oscars gown was the most expensive dress in the show’s history at the time.
5. Even celebrities borrow dresses. Typically, if a gown is couture, it must be returned. If it’s custom-made, however, the actress can usually take it as a keepsake.
6. Of the more than 400 gowns worn to the Oscars in the past 15 years, 127 have been strapless, making it the most popular dress style. Coming in second? Sleeveless, with 113 styles.
7. The most expensive Oscars jewelry ever goes to Angelina Jolie’s $3.5 million combo in 2009: a pair of Lorraine Schwartz Colombian emerald drop earrings, weighing a total of 115 carats, and a matching 65-carat emerald ring.
8. 2015 saw a rise in the unconventional tux. The reigning trend of the year? Midnight blue with black lapels.
9. While the most-worn dress colors are black and gold, it’s white that takes home the awards: 36 percent of actresses who wear white win.
